As one of the main dealer of Volvo CE, SMT is joining the FIA Electric Rallycross World Championship as gold sponsor of the Belgian round (October 8-9, Spa Francorchamp), also sponsoring the CE Dealer Team created especially for this competition.
SMT and Volvo CE’s participation in the event goes far beyond sponsorship: the Construction Equipment Dealer Team (CE Dealer Team), created especially for this competition, will enter the races with a full pair of 680hp electric rallycross cars. Volvo CE is also the official track build partner of this championship with the support of SMT.
Toward an electric future
The competition format, totally based on electric mobility, as well as the participation of the Construction Equipment Dealer Team with the first electric car, enable FIA 2022 World Rallycross Championship to be the right platform to promote a change toward a more sustainable, electric and 100% fossil fuel free future.
SMT, in partnership with Volvo CE, aims precisely to raise the awareness of customers and partners to the need for greater sustainability and the importance of electric mobility in the machinery and equipment sector – a sector in which energy transition, towards carbon neutrality, is very important. With an history of high-performance off-road solutions, Volvo CE will also use the event to showcase the growing range of electric construction equipment and innovative services available on the market.
For Arvid Rinaldo, Head of the partnership and operational involvement in World RX for Volvo CE :
“It’s the perfect platform for us to demonstrate to our own audiences how we can help transform the construction equipment industry and motorsport to be more sustainable.”
Competing for equality
For the first time, a gender-equal team of drivers – one male and one female – will participate in the international competition, representing the Construction Equipment Dealer Team. This is a historic milestone in support of gender equality and of which SMT is proud to be a part. The drivers will be Klara Andersson and Niclas Grönholm, led by the experienced Team Manager Jussi Pinomäki.
