Bauma, the leading trade fair for the Construction machinery, material handling and mining machines industries, was held last week in Munich Germany. A must-attend event for all the major actors in the industry. SMT attended with delegations from Belgium, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Africa and Corporate, to exchange with our manufacturers on their latest additions and the industry’s innovations. It was also an opportunity to discuss with visitors and customers about their current challenges and needs.
This year, the trade fair’s main themes were:
- climate neutrality
- alternative drive concepts
- networked construction
- sustainable construction
- mining challenged
Topics that manufacturers understood and were ready for.

Volvo Construction Equipment had a strong positioning by presenting only electric machines. The brand took the opportunity to unveil its latest addition: the articulated hauler A30 Electric, a battery-electric articulated hauler, the first in its ton class size. The groundbreaking reveal was introduced by Melker Jernberg, CEO of Volvo Construction Equipment. The new machine comes to complement the brand’s zero-emission lineup, but in a size and capacity adapted for big construction sites, showing once more Volvo’s ambition to lead electric equipment.
Volvo presented its Solutions bar, showcasing a range of innovative site digital solutions tailored to meet customers’ specific needs. SMT was also there to engage in discussions with customers.
Volvo Penta unveiled its next-generation off-highway productivity solutions, designed to help manufacturers build smarter, more connected machines. A key highlight was the Battery Energy Storage Subsystem (BESS), offering a flexible and easy-to-integrate electric power solution to support the industry’s shift toward electrification. The brand also showcased its cutting-edge Stage V engine, ensuring optimal performance while meeting the most stringent emission standards.

Located in the middle of the exhibition, Sennebogen stood out as the ‘green heart of Bauma’. The manufacturer displayed many new machines to the delight of existing and potential customers who were able to look and feel the machines, test the new cab designs and digital automation systems. One of the main new machines displayed was the 830 G material handler, including the SENcon3 control system and the option for a hybrid system. A demonstration showed how the machine could be remotely controlled from the factory, more than 100km away.

Another innovation presented at the fair was the new 822 to 826 series of material handlers for the recycling industry. This series is available in diesel as well as in new generation cable electric and battery versions. The battery machines can be charged while the machine is in use, making it possible to reduce the number of batteries and therewith the investment. The customers have the choice for one to four batteries. Sennebogen is the only manufacturer to offer that option on its battery electric material handlers.
Sennebogen has always put a lot of emphasis on innovation. They confirmed it once again this year with their new machines and innovations added to their electric machines, shared Eric Bossinade, Deputy Commercial Manager, SMT Netherlands
SMT and Dynapac have partnered in Great Britain and Africa since 2024, so the fair was a great way to solidify the relationship and learn more about their new products. The manufacturer introduced a full electric range made up of highway pavers, city pavers, 3-ton compactors and electric light equipment. A world premiere for the electric highway paver.

3 years after the last edition that took place right after COVID in 2022, this Bauma fair was definitely a must-seen event for all manufacturers and dealers in Europe and beyond. The event sets the tone for the construction, material handling and mining sectors and is a great meeting place for everyone from these sectors in addition to the 600,000 visitors registered in this edition.
It was good to have the opportunity to meet most of our interlocutors in the same place. The fair is undoubtedly a great event to exchange with our customers, manufacturers and other suppliers. Plus it’s always nice to see SMT colleagues from other entities, said Robert Cope, Product Manager Volvo Construction Equipment, SMT Great Britain.
The sector will have to wait 3 years for the next edition of 2028. Considering how fast the sector has evolved over the past few years, we are excited to see what comes next.
