My three advice to young women are: to be courageous, to be truthful and to be yourself, you can’t be anybody else doing this.
— Barbara Osei Afriyie, Senior Logistics Officer - SMT Ghana

I am Barbara Osei Afriyie, Senior Logistics Officer at SMT Ghana.

It started when I realised I had a passion for administration and then setting a good example for my siblings to follow. The satisfaction that comes with fulfilling a customer’s request, that’s my inspiration. This industry, because is limited to women and to be part of such a group is really fulfilling. The main challenge in my day-to-day activity is honouring a customer’s request to meet his demand for his uptime. The support I get for SMT is good staff coordination, everyone is willing to help and when it comes to management, they are there to support you to succeed.

I’m passionate about being that support or that link to satisfying the customer and then putting that smile on the customer’s face.

The keys to success are one, to be passionate and two, to be committed to what you have passion for. And three, to have the drive to do what you are committed to.
My three advice to young women are:

  • One: to be courageous
  • Two: to be truthful
  • Three: to be yourself, you can’t be anybody else doing this.

One of the SMT Attitudes that makes particular sense to me is respect, respecting everyone in the work field, being it a cleaner, security, managing director, director, co-worker. Respecting their values, their culture and their backgrounds.
